Valentine’s Day Rainbow Heart Cake

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, this rainbow heart cake is perfect! I love paper quilling, and with a delicious rainbow centre, this cake is sure to be loved.

Materials

• One 8″ round and one 8″ square cake – I used 2 batches on my vanilla cupcake recipe
• 1.13kg (2lb 8oz) Sweet buttercreammade using all shortening instead of butter
– 500g (1lb 1.6oz) white
– 90g (3.2oz) purple – equal parts Americolor Electric Purple and Wilton Violet
– 120g (4.2oz) blue – 4 parts Americolor Sky Blue and 1 part Americolor Lemon Yellow
– 120g (4.2oz) green – equal parts Americolor Leaf Green and Americolor Teal
– 120g (4.2oz) yellow – 3 parts Americolor Lemon Yellow and 1 part Americolor Egg Yellow
– 120g (4.2oz) Pink – 3 parts Americolor Electric Pnik and 1 part Wilton Rose
• 500g (1lb 1oz) Modelling chocolate – 50g (0.7oz) each of Light Pink (1 part Wilton Rose and 3 parts Americolor Electric Pink) Dark Pink (equal parts Wilton Rose and Americolor Electric Pink) Light Yellow (3 parts Americolor Lemon Yellow and 1 part Americolor Egg Yellow) Dark Yellow (equal parts Americolor Lemon Yellow and Americolor Egg Yellow) Light Blue (Americolor Sky Blue) Dark Blue (Wilton Royal Blue) Green (2 parts Americolor Leaf Green and 1 part Americolor Lemon Yellow) Teal (Americolor Teal) Light Purple (3 parts Wilton Violet and 2 parts Americolor Electric Purple) Dark Purple (3 parts Wilton Violet and 1 part Americolor Electric Purple)
• Large spatula
